At first glance you’d look at this house on SW Florida and not feel terribly inclined to venture inside. That would be a mistake however, because while the exterior is unlikely to wow you, the interior will almost definitely catch your attention. Custom built in 2006, this contemporary has been carefully thought-through at the planning stage, and with seemingly little expense spared, the owners have created a living space that weaves function, design and comfort into an extremely enviable home.

On the main level, except for the powder room and a closet, the entire floor is devoted to open-plan living. The kitchen has a sleek contemporary styling, with stainless steel counters (that look barely used in five years!), dark-wood cabinetry and an island bar. The dining space has ample room for a ten top, possibly a twelve! Further down, there is a formal living room with a fireplace, one of three throughout the house.

Upstairs there are two bedroom suites separated on either end of the house with an office in the turret and a laundry room further down the corridor. The master suite is vast, with a sitting area off the bedroom and a bathroom with a soaking tub that looks out to the expansive views.

The lower level is enticing primarily because it can be used in so many ways. The floor is split between the third bedroom suite and a family room, equipped with a full kitchen, that leads out on to multi-leveled decks. Have family coming to stay that need their space? Here’s an entire floor for those that need self-sufficiency. Need to throw a summer party? Here’s the kitchen with bar, family room and the decks to spill out on to, and you’ll never even need to use the main level. It’s a multi-functional space that can play many roles, and one that few other houses seem to have mastered so well.

One thing that is a little jarring as you enter the driveway is the proximity of the house to its immediate neighbor. It does feel like you are rubbing shoulders a little too closely. Fortunately, once you are inside the house that’s pretty much the last you see of them. Virtually all windows face out to green space or the northeasterly views. It’s my one gripe with the place but pretty easily forgotten once you walk through the front door.

Meticulously cared-for, cleverly understated yet careful not to mask its luxury, this is quite simply a superb house and one of the best I’ve seen recently. Now, about that exterior……..

Priced at $899,000.
