Last week, Portland was fairly quiet as most of its residents escaped town hoping to swap the drizzle for even a few rays of sunshine. I’d imagine those that went to California for the week regretted that decision, but there you go. In similar fashion, the tour was lackluster, so I decided to give it a miss.
This week the tour bounced back in fine style, with a fabulous penthouse in the Pinnacle with an extraordinary deck, a bonkers 1960’s daylight ranch and this ranch over in Hillsdale. Though it’s somewhat unassuming from its elevated perch above SW Sunset, once inside it’s a different story.
The 1955 house is built with a stubby ‘u’ style floor plan with a wing for the three good-sized bedrooms and the retro-tiled bathroom complete with original sunken shower. The anchor of the house is the huge, and I mean huge kitchen (it takes up three pictures in the listing!!). It’s a fantastic room with views to the valley on one side and opening out to the patio on the other side. Off the kitchen, and making up the opposite wing of the house, is the equally large family room with a fireplace and enough promise that you may never venture back to the other side of the house.
Downsides; well the patio is a little dark and I’m not overly keen on side yards but they are minor gripes for what the house has to offer. At just over 3000 sqft, this house is private where it needs to be, and abundant with entertaining space. It’s an enviable balance you won’t find in too many houses for $485,000 in the this neighborhood.
